Al-Anwar foundation was established on May 14, 2003 under the care and supervision of Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Bashir Al-Najafi (may Allah prolong his life) to enhance and develop the Iraqi society intellectually as well as to rebuild Iraq so that it may function alongside developed countries; this was achieved through developing the character of the Iraqi people on multiple scales.
From its early beginnings, the foundation sought to benefit from the world's scientific progress while taking into consideration the cultural, social, economical, and political changes that Iraq was witnessing, in order to bring forth the best of services at all levels. The foundation was recorded in civil organizations with the number: IB71296. It placed among its priorities spreading Islamic teachings within Iraqi society, introducing a modern Islamic image via media to the outside world, and enhancing communication with other foundations and cultural centers. Al-Anwar foundation consists of various departments that have had the most active role in expanding the country:
Al-Anwar foundation opened its own institute for learning computer and foreign languages, in addition to providing tutoring classes for high-school students due to the high expenses of private lessons, which have become very strenuous on Iraqi parents. The idea was initiated by the Marj'ea to increase the people's efficiency in computer technology, the use of the internet, and foreign languages, while focusing on the youth and their role in serving society.
More than 2000 youth graduated from these seminars, which included both genders. In addition, the foundation also held other educational seminars that specialized in leadership and management, the media, first aid, and health. The institute depended on reliable and qualified teachers as well as modern teaching methods, which contributed greatly to its success. Grand Ayatollah Al-Najafi and the foundation highly believe that scientific progress is to be achieved only alongside religious knowledge, therefore religious science were also available, in jurisprudence, beliefs, and Quran.
This department covers Ayatollah Al-Najafi's Office's activities and documents Ayatollah Al-Najafi's advice through his meetings with visitors, and religious and political figures. It then publishes them via their monthly newsletter, their official website; in addition to issuing CD's that cover the foundation's activities and Ayatollah Al-Najafi's classes and interviews. This is done with the help and cooperation of other departments, such as the publishing, editing, and translation department. This department also cooperates with the Conferences and Exhibits department to present and introduce the foundation in cultural clubs, conferences, and book exhibit; in addition to commemorating the death anniversaries of the Imams (as) on air. The foundation also offers the opportunity to other Islamic foundations and prominent religious figures to spread the teachings of Ahlul-Bayt (as) over the worldwide web by providing 26 free websites.
Al-Anwar foundation highly senses the importance of spreading the teachings of the Ahlul-Bayt (as) and introducing an image of true Islam to the outside world. Al-Noor studio publishes television programs that include, along with a variety of other things, interviews with scholars and the Marj'ae, live coverage of the holy occasions, and educational programs. The studio also offers its services to other channels, free of charge, and has worked with Al-Forat, Al-Ghadeer, Al-Anwar and others.
The main objective of this department is to help the voices and opinions of the Marj'ae reach the people of Najaf and of Iraq in general; in addition to spreading the teachings and message of the Ahlul-Bayt (as) and commemorating their anniversaries.
The department seeks to participate in religious conferences, in addition to conferences held by the youth and students, throughout Iraq's provinces and in national/international book exhibits, which stems from their belief in the necessity of enriching the intellectual field with publications and such activities.
This department publishes Ayatollah Najafi's (may Allah prolong his life) new books, in addition to reprinting his old ones, which contain his instructions and verdicts. The editing is carried out in accordance with modern methods in addition to a full grammar and language check especially after these books, and other Islamic books in general have suffered from manipulation by the previous regime. It also publishes books from other writers and researchers, which are deemed to be of use and benefit to the general public. The department has published tens of issues, which have covered tens of thousands of topics.
It translates Grand Ayatollah Al-Najafi's books, including those that contain his verdicts, instructions, and his research, to foreign languages such as English, French, Persian, Urdu, Hindu, and other languages relevant to the Islamic world. This department has particularly attracted believers from various nationalities by helping them increase their Islamic knowledge with ease.

The foundation seeks to provide any materialistic needs such as sheets and tents, as well as financial help wherever needed. Moral support is given as well by the foundation's staff and . To enrich the experience intellectually, Ayatollah Najafi's published books, which are relevant to the occasion, are distributed to the visitors in addition to his instructions and advice to them through booklets and brochures.
It is worth mentioning that Ayatollah Najafi's office has been offering these services even before the fall of the previous regime, playing a vital role in the continuity of these traditions. The department has also offered their services outside of Muharram and Safar, such as in organizing trips to the holy city of Samarra, after Grand Ayatollah Bashir Al-Najafi (may Allah prolong his life) personally opened the way to the holy shrines with his historical visit on July 26, 2008.
